Karl graduated from Harvard University in 2015 with a degree in Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies, a minor in Music, and a language citation in Chinese. In high school, he spent his time taking advanced science and math courses, doing research for the Environmental Protection Agency, and competing in science tournaments. However, Harvard’s humanities programs quickly drew his academic interests towards a different aspect of science as he began to study how scientific discourse has shaped understandings of gender, sexuality and race.
Besides tutoring, Karl spends his time acting, singing, and learning how to dance. At Harvard, he performed in the Hasty Pudding Theatricals, a group that produces a new student-written drag musical each year and experienced first-hand how hard it is to walk in heels. He is originally from Chapel Hill, North Carolina, a town that is famous for barbecue, sweet tea, and "not being as bad as the rest of North Carolina.” He also enjoys running, re-watching old episodes of Spongebob, and helping his little brother make YouTube videos.
