Jasper is a writer, teacher, coach and designer. He has an MFA in creative writing from Antioch University Los Angeles, where he won its top award for academic writing and held a Creative Writing Fellowship. He earned his AB in Slavic Languages and Literature from Harvard College, receiving departmental honors for his prize-winning senior thesis. He works every winter as a Poet in the Schools, teaching poetry to over 400 students at three different schools. He has lectured on creative writing at both UCLA and Wesleyan College, where he received a grant from its Center for Pedagogical Innovation. As a writing tutor and coach, Jasper helps students as they outline, draft, and revise their essays, stories, and poems until they are polished pieces of writing. In this way he helps students to become stronger and more confident writers.
Jasper has a talent and passion for mentorship. Throughout his time at Signet, he has helped support his students towards all sorts of academic goals. Jasper has completed Signet's rigorous academic coaching training program and excels as a thoughtful and deeply empathetic academic guide.
Jasper grew up on the rural Mendocino Coast, and he still lives there most of the year. When he’s not teaching writing, he’s usually working on essays, short stories, and poems. He also enjoys hiking, Kung Fu, playing basketball, watching baseball, and cooking. His cat is named Sybil, after the sibilant, favorite sound of cats across the galaxy.
