Bren finished her Bachelor's of Science in Biology at the University of Lethbridge, Canada, in 2001. She worked in microbiology lab for almost a year before continuing on to her PhD with a full scholarship. Bren graduated with her PhD in Microbiology in 2008 from Texas A&M University. After graduating, she created and taught a course for undergraduate and graduate students at universities across the US and UK. She taught students how to think critically about scientific literature and extract structured information that was useful to bioinformatics databases world-wide. Since moving to Boston, she went from teaching smaller classes (up to 300 students) to putting content online for the world at MIT OpenCourseWare. She worked professors from Course 5 (Chemistry), Course 9 (Brain & Cognitive Sciences), Course 16 (Aeronautics & Astronautics), and Course 21L (Literature).
Bren is from Western Canada and completed her undergraduate studies at a small university in Canada before moving to the second largest public university in the US for her PhD. She grew up riding horses and continues to do so today at a small farm outside Boston. She also grows orchids and loves to travel.
“Richard has been wonderful to work with and helps a lot with keeping me motivated and on track with studying. I feel like he is really invested in helping me improve and believes in my ability to do so. I am very happy with my decision to work with him over taking other online courses for GRE prep.”
