Ashwini graduated magna cum laude from Harvard College with an AB in Biochemical Sciences, completed her PhD in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at UCSF, and postdoctoral training at MIT and Mass. General Hospital. She is now an Instructor at Harvard Medical School, where she assists in running a research lab that studies chromatin and epigenetics, and teaches biochemistry and cell biology to medical students. She has taught in a wide variety of settings (e.g. small and large classrooms, laboratory, and 1-5 day workshops), and her students have ranged from high school students to adult professionals.
Ashwini grew up outside of Boston, and is thrilled to still be in the area. She speaks Marathi fluently, and has picked up a smattering of French, Italian, and Spanish along the way (after studying Latin for many years and nearly choosing a Classics major). She received professional ballet training while growing up, and continues to enjoy ballet classes. When not in the lab or classroom or dance studio, she designs hand-knit garments.
